There is significant interest in green ICT from sustainable design and green computing communities, technology companies, governments, and many others. We started work on this book because we noticed that while people in specific fields are talking about “greener gadgets” and “sustainable computing”, a larger, cross-sector concept of Green ICT hasn’t been articulated clearly. Learn more about the field of green ICT here.
The book will map key questions, challenges, and interconnected issues to help people as diverse as cell phone designers, consumer advocates, telecommunications companies, computer manufacturers, and policymakers to understand why greening ICT is collectively important, what impact it can have, and what synergies may be found between different types of work on this issue.
We’re exploring five topics: e-waste; infrastructure of the future; green monitoring + green software; new media art + the environment; and green ICT design.
